"The Art of Action: Shaping Vermont's Future Through Art"

The Vermont Arts Council, in collaboration with entrepreneur and philanthropist Lyman Orton, is commissioning two-dimensional works of art that articulate Vermont’s social, political, environmental, and economic future and inspire people to take action.

The Windham Art Gallery is pleased to present the work of Featured Artist, Tim Wood, in the front gallery and a group exhibit, Around Town, featuring the work of WAG artist-members Trudy Crites, Steven Meyer and Leonard Ragouzeos, and well as invited artist, Walter Meyer in the back gallery.

This exhibit runs Friday, September 4-Sunday, September 28, with an opening reception on Friday, September 5, 5:00-8:00 PM during Gallery Walk.

Both of these exhibits highlight the simple beauty of everyday things one sees living in southern Vermont, including the gardens, barns, streets of town and faces of local people.

PUTNEY, Vt. - Where does a classical music fan in Greater Boston go on a typical summer weekend? For many the answer is Tanglewood, that orchestral haven beckoning from the western reaches of the Mass. Pike. But those partial to the more intimate charms of chamber music have a wealth of less-traveled options. This past weekend, I skipped the big events in the Berkshires and headed north to catch performances at the Yellow Barn Music Festival and at the Marlboro Music Festival.

MoonFire's Tower Gallery located at 30 Old Depot Road in Putney, Vermont hosts it's Second Sunday Opening on Sunday August 10th from 3-8pm. Featuring live entertainment and refreshments.

This month we are celebrating the art of Jim Jackson (Townshend, Vt. via Cambridge Ma.), with paintings inspired by Faerie Camp Destiny in Grafton, Vermont. www.jimjacksonart.com .

The gallery is in it's third month and is thrilled to be debuting the paintings of NYC's Jimi McNally and houses the sculptures of Bryce LeVan Cushing. His current show "Fire Works" has been chosen to travel to the Drap-Art Festival in Barcelona, Spain in November 2008.

The Windham Art Gallery is pleased to present Cool Work for Hot Days, featuring the work of WAG artist-members Laura "Lola" Baltzell, Judy Hawkins, Lesley Heathcote, Meredith Ingersoll, Carolyn Nelson, Scott Nelson and Robin Stronk. This exhibit runs Friday, August 1-Sunday, August 31, with an opening reception on Friday, August 1, 5:00-8:00 PM during Gallery Walk.

PUTNEY - The Yellow Barn Music Festival in Putney, VT winds down its 39th summer season this week, with 8 p.m. concerts on Wednesday, July 30 through Saturday night, August 2, plus a 12:30 p.m. Saturday matinee, all presented at its air-conditioned, handicapped-accessible concert hall on Main Street. Friday’s concert will follow a 6 p.m. supper (by reservation) at the nearby Front Porch Café. Concert performers will be festival faculty, including members of the Peabody Trio, playing with some of the most gifted up-and-coming young artists on the current chamber music scene, including the prize-winning Israeli Ariel String Quartet, among others.
