A community that wants to reinvent itself

Putney is TalkingHi all,

The following is excerpted from "The Extravagant Gesture: Nature, Design and the Transformation of Human Industry" by William McDonough and Michael Braungart, authors of the 2001 sustainability classic CRADLE TO CRADLE.

I just thought it might fire some imaginations, particularly in the wake of the fire at the General Store.

Happy daydreaming,

Sad to be Leaving Putney

Putney is TalkingI wanted to write to say how sad I am to be leaving Putney. I have lived here for ten years. Having faced the fact that we cannot afford to keep living here, we are leaving. I suppose the reasons why I love this town are why housing prices are out of reach. Everyone should have a main street with everything they need. From great used clothes at Swirl, to local produce that beats Brattleboro at the Putney Coop. I love the bad pizza at Village Pizza and an occasional greasy meal at the Diner. Walking to the Credit Union to do my banking. And the library. A great gang of friendly folks and a community gathering place bar none. So, I feel lucky to have had these ten years. I won't be far, but a few miles can seem like another planet.

iPutney Is Ours to Use

Putney is Talking iPutney is a great place to swap information.
Recently I've run into several people who benefited from using iPutney.

One found a job following up on a lead posted on iPutney. Others rented their apartment or house. And yet another sold her woodstove --- using iPutney.com.

This is our collective website. Please use it in ways that enhance your life and the lives of those in the Putney community.

Recycling Resource?

Putney is TalkingWould it be possible for us as a collective community to try to put together a list of recycling/reuse options or places that often need these donations on a regular basis?

This might be nice for new folks in the community who don't know about freecycle.com, swapday at the dump, or the recycling behind the town hall.

Thanks!

iPutney adds Regional News section

Putney is Talking We’ve added a new section to iPutney called Regional News. Now you can read regional news that has been submitted to iPutney by clicking on the Regional News link towards the upper left side of each screen.

As you know, iPutney focuses on Putney news and events held here in Putney. This is a good thing and we don’t intend to change this. But we all leave Putney (at least occasionally). The new regional section may help keep you informed about the wider Windham County community (Brattleboro, Dummerston, Saxtons River, Bellows Falls, etc.).

Unlike Putney news, Regional News pieces will not automatically show on the iPutney home page. To read regional news, you must click on the Regional News link. This is the only way to see these stories.

If your piece is about Putney, or people from Putney, be sure the word PUTNEY is included in the text so we know to put it on the iPutney.com home page.
